RETROspective: Computer Gaming World
I am moving into a new house soon so the inevitable clean up of my old place is happening as we speak. It’s time to throw out the old junk that’s been piling up over the years. I was cleaning out the storage locker the other day and look what I found – A big box of a blast from the past, my old PC gaming past. That’s right folks, I wasn’t always a console player and I used to be a fairly hardcore PC gamer. So HARDCORE that I had a subscription to Computer Gaming World. I was big into games such as Baldur’s Gate, Rainbow Six and StarCraft Brood Wars. That’s when we had to play online using a 14.4k baud dial up modem. I can still remember the days playing StarCraft Brood Wars during programming class and then later at home until 5am. I lived in the basement and I could see the sunrise creeping through the window and would say, “oh shit, I have to go to class in a few hours!” I’d play so long that my hands and feet got so cold that I wrapped myself up in a blanket … Good times!
To top it off, I found a box of 3.5″ diskettes. Any of you guys remember these badboys?
A nostalgic look back at the games that defined our formative years and influenced the games that we play today.
