Halo MCC vs. Last of Us Remastered

Just like my Forza Horizon 2 vs DriveClub comparison, here’s two hyped up remastered games.  Halo: The Master Chief Collection comes out on Xbox One on November 11, 2014, while The Last of Us Remastered came out a month ago on July 29, 2014 for PS4.  Here’s a comparison of features from both games.

About Hockey Glory

aka "Hockey Glory"

I play NHL video games with a high focus on positioning. I play CoD games campy with claymores and long range ARs. I played Diablo 1 and 2 using the archer. I hate playing run and gun style. But in Bethesda RPGs I grab a sword, sprint at enemies and mash away at the buttons... so I might be bi-po ...read more

I have only played the campaign of the first Halo game back in the day but the 4 games combined have over 100 multiplayer maps? No way….

In content alone the Halo collection completely obliterates TLOU. In fact, TLOU Remastered feels like robbery.

    • demfax

Millions of gamers have bought and enjoyed TLOU on PS4. Sony put the game up for sale, and it sold millions. It is not “robbery”, that is blind hatred. They are both good remakes depending on preference.

Spot on. You just list what both packages have to offer and the Last of Us:’Remastered’ is a sham, a totally blatant cash grab from sony. And of course people will buy it… people are dumb.

You are an evil, demented, blind fanboy spreading lies and hatred. It’s pathetic that deranged fanboys blindly hate good video games because they are on the “wrong” piece of plastic, and call people “dumb” for buying and enjoying video games.

Stop spreading fanboy FUD, lies, and hate and get help. It’s not healthy to hate pieces of plastic and people who like playing video games on them.

  • demfax

They’re both good remakes depending on what kind of games you like.

Why are TLOU Remastered and other PS3 exclusive remakes being made?

    1. Financing for next gen projects.
    2. Experience on next gen hardware to better create next gen projects.
    3. At least half of PS4 owners (5 out of 10 million) didn’t own a PS3 which is a huge brand new audience.
    4. Many PS3 exclusive games were critically acclaimed and sold well.
    5. There are already plenty of new IPs being created.
    6. Assets made for late PS3 games are often higher quality than what goes into the actual PS3 version.
    7. Large studios have multiple teams and can afford to put smaller teams on remakes while working on larger projects.

    TLOU PS4 features:
1080p/60 FPS. Framerate is 60 fps with almost no drops through the entire game.
Texture maps are 4x more detailed.
Shadow maps 2x in 60 fps mode.
    Higher resolution particle effects.
    Occlusion mapping on decals.
    No texture streaming.
    Longer draw distances, better LOD.
    Expanded audio menu options.
Possibility to lock frame rate at 30 FPS.
Possibility to swap trigger and thumbsticks controls.
DualShock 4 touch pad, light bar and speaker supported.
Cinematics with commentary by Neil Druckmann, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

Wow… you are desperately trying to squeeze out bullet points ain’t ya.
If I did that for Halo: Master Cheif Collection you’d be scrolling for 10 pages.

LoU:’Remastered’ is a shameful and blatant cash grab.

Just a question, why compare when a game is not even out? That’s stupid if you ask me.

    • sony :-(

Take a little look below and it all makes sense… it shows you what a blatant cash grab the Last of Us:’Remastered’ is when compared to the best collection and remastering that has ever been put together.

Halo Master Chief Collection is phenominal value and shows you exactly how much 343 Studios and Certain Affinity care about their fans. Absolutely astonishing value.

Trade in the ps4 it’s a hunk of over hyped junk. The games are on the Xbox One people… trade in the ps4.

PS4 has many great games that gamers love. That’s why it’s 10+ million in sales and growing. Sony’s large number of well funded 1st parties will ensure PS4 has a ton of great AAA exclusives, as many or more than PS3.

PS4/Sony exclusives Jun-Dec: The Last of Us Remastered, Driveclub, LittleBigPlanet 3, Infamous: First Light, Samurai Warriors 4, Natural Doctrine, Guilty Gear Xrd, Singstar, and lots of indies (Resogun DLC, Counterspy, Hohokum, Velocity 2X, etc.).

PS4/Sony exclusives 2015 (announced): Bloodborne, The Order, Ratchet & Clank Remastered, Uncharted 4, Let It Die, Deep Down, and lots of indies.

PS4 has 35+ AAA games from July to December 2014. Most of those are multiplatform but there’s no shortage of AAA games for PS4 owners.

PS4 games rated 73+ on Metacritic not on XB1: Final Fantasy XIV, Resogun, Transistor, MLB 14, Injustice, Trine 2: Complete Story, TowerFall Ascension, Infamous 2nd Son, Don’t Starve, flower, War Thunder, DC Universe Online, Dead Nation, Dynasty Warriors 8, MotoGP 14, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, TLOU Remastered, The Swapper, Stick It To The Man, ZEN Pinball 2, Star Wars Pinball, The Pinball Arcade, Pure Pool, Fez, Rogue Legacy, Sound Shapes, Sportsfriends, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, SteamWorld Dig, Awesomenauts Assemble, Titan Attacks, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Escape Plan, Outlast: Whistleblower, Hohokum.

1st/2nd party studios include Japan Studio, Polyphony Digital, Naughty Dog, SCE Bend, SCE San Diego, SCE Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Pixel Opus, Evolution Studios, Guerrilla Games, Guerrilla Cambridge, SCE London, Media Molecule, Ready at Dawn, Quantic Dream, etc.

Sony’s largest 1st party studios like Naughty Dog, Guerilla Games, and Santa Monica are working on unrevealed AAA games. Expect big 1st party AAA reveals in the future. Sony’s 1st parties are well funded and the games division is making a profit.

Sony showed the following games at Gamescom 2014:

Sony exclusives: The Tomorrow Children, Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded, Alienation, WiLD, Rime, DriveClub, The Order: 1886, Bloodborne, LittleBigPlanet 3

Timed console exclusives: Dreamfall Chapters, HellBlade, The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter, Volume, HollowPoint, Runemaster, Nom Nom Galaxy, Pix the Cat, Papers Please, In Space We Brawl, Ether One, Qube 2, Snow

Multiplatform games: Silent Hills (P.T. playable teaser), FarCry 4, Destiny, Shadow Of Mordor

PS4 has a steady stream of games all year. According to Listwar it’s now 100 PS4 games to 59 XB1 games. The fact is PS4 has nearly twice as many games as XB1, and many of those are rated 73+ on Metacritic.

        • otherZinc

Not 1 PS4 game you mentioned has Outsold XBOX ONE exclusives Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, or TitanFall; NPD.

All those crappy Indie Games you mentioned is not what consumers spent $400+ for a console for.

With Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, & Halo Master Chief Collection releasing this holiday season. PS4 can’t match that with Drive Club & it’s 1 Feature; & LBP3. That’s garbage.

        • demfax

You lie. PS4 games regularly outsell Xbox, which is expected since PS4 hardware is outselling Xbox 2:1 (10 million to 5 million).

PS4 will continue outselling Xbox through 2014 and beyond.

Microsoft fanboys are far more likely to be constantly wrong or delusional and out of touch with reality. There is no PS equivalent to misterxmedia’s cult or dsogaming.

Claiming Xbox is secretly more powerful than PS4, claiming Xbox is outselling PS4 or will soon start outselling it, claiming Sony is broke or bankrupt, accusing Sony of lying when they didn’t, accusing Sony of saying things they didn’t, lying about non-existent downgrades in games like Infamous, lying about PS4 having no games or only indie games, lying that PS4 is only selling “on hype”, lies about PSN, or delusional conspiracy theories in general.

With the recent PSN DDOS microsoft shills flooded disqus to spread lies and hatred. They kept lying that PSN was hacked when it was just being DDOSed, lying that PSN is not improved at all from 2011, lying that Sony isn’t improving PSN, and lying that PS4 has hidden “always online” DRM when it doesn’t.

PS4 will continue being successful despite the constantly WRONG deranged shills spreading lies, FUD, and hate. You are helpless, nothing you can do will stop it.

This comparison is slightly biased in it’s approach. You’ve not listed DLC correctly, you’ve not listed coop modes in Halo campaign, and your extra features is lacking for Halo:MCC. So I’d like to even out the way you’ve presented things:

You’ve listed Single Player content, but not included all of Halos single player content…
    Last of Us:’Remastered’ single player
    Last of Us
    Left Behind(DLC)

    Halo:Master Chief Collection single player
    Halo 1
    Halo 2
    Halo 3
    Halo 4
Spartan Ops – 50 missions (this is single player too)

You’ve listed Mulitplayer content for Last of Us by separating out DLC, but not done this for Halo:MCC… let’s do that for both packages…
    Last of Us:’Remastered’ multiplayer list:
    Original Maps
    Abandoned(DLC) 4
    Reclaimed(DLC) 4
    Total maps = 15(7 shipped/8 as DLC)

    Halo:Master Chief Collection mulitplayer list:
    Halo1
    Original maps – 13
Plus all the PC exclusive maps – 6
    Halo 2
    Original maps – 12
Plus the PC exclusive maps – 2
    Bonus Map Pack: DLC (2maps)
    Killtacular Pack: DLC (2maps)
    Maptacular Pack: : DLC (5maps)
Blastacular Map Pack: : DLC (2maps)
    Halo 3
    Original maps – 11
Cold Storage: DLC – A free map
    Heroic Map Pack: DLC (3maps)
    Legendary Map Pack: DLC (3maps)
Mythic Map Pack Set 1: DLC (3maps)
Mythic Map Pack Set 2: DLC (3maps)
    Halo 4
    Original maps – 10
    Crimson Map Pack: DLC(3maps)
    Majestic Map Pack: DLC(3maps)
Forge Island: DLC – A free map
    Castle Map Pack: DLC(3maps)
Spartan Ops Season 1 DLC Episodes 6-10: Contains the last five episodes of Spartan Ops Season 1 (total of 50 missions with cinematics)
Total = 100+ (who’s counting at this stage anyway… Halo wins by a mile)
Plus 6 completely rebuilt from scratch maps from Halo2, not remastered, completely rebuilt form scratch. This will also include the rebuilt maps for Halo1:Anniversary.

    Co-op modes
    Last of Us
    Zero

    Halo:Master Chief Collection
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
Halo 2 Anniversary – 2 players max, split-screen or online
    Halo 3 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen
    Halo 4 – 4 players max online, 2 players max split-screen

    Extras
    Last of Us
Photo mode(I think this was an added extra right?)
Ability to swap from 60fps to 30fps(which ‘enhanced’ the shadows)

    Halo:Master Chief Collection
Halo1, entire campaign complete rebuilt in new engine plus ability to swap between these two engines on the fly.
Halo2, entire campaign complete rebuilt in new engine plus ability to swap between these two engines on the fly.
Halo2, additional Terminals fleshing out the story between Halo4 and Halo5
Halo2 cinematics recreated from scratch by Blur Studios(just under 60 minutes)
    Halo5 Beta
    Halo Nightfall TV Series
    Playlists
    Unified control schemes
Co-op mode enabled for Halo1 for the 1st time on console
Forge mode enabled for Halo2 maps that have been rebuilt from scratch
All sound effects and music has been completely re-recorded
    at Skywalker Ranch… WOW!!!

I think that about covers it.

The Last of Us just got totally DOMINATED.

What a moronic article. A) games don’t compare B) one is way older and more milked

It is not like Halo remakes and all this crap was not released before,..Only makes it seam how much they have been milking Halo,.. but then again why did they not ad Reach and even those top down games. It costs them nothing

Maybe a good value proposition for fans to have it all (or most of it) in one place,..but then again,.. things they already bought or re-bought ( ”anniversary” ),..

  • jacksjus

I mean there truly is no comparison here. You have at least 4 games verses 1. So MS wins in value hands down. Now the overall quality may be a different story, however it’s still 4 games to one in the end.

    Dumb comparison.
