CAMPERS. Now I’ve been playing COD since the first modern warfare came out and I’ve been called a camper numerous times while playing in public games. To those of you who do not know what a camper is, simply put it’s a player who goes to a spot on the map, proceeds to sit and wait until an unfortunate enemy comes by. Now with that said I DO understand the beef with “corner campers” who lurk in the shadowy corners of the map waiting to pull the trigger of their auto shotty at the enemy coming through the doorway to the room they are camping.
The reason I’ve been called a camper by other players is frankly because I’ve frustrated them. The ultimate goal of any FPS is to kill as many people as you can while dying the least amount of times. When I do play COD or BF3 solo (without an online party) trying to get a good K:D is about knowing when to camp, when to rush, and moving around map strategically. You will rarely find me running through the center of the map or through open areas without a UAV up. This frustrates people because I tend to linger around areas that are popular with campers, or spots that offer strategic advantages. I use the word “linger” rather than camp because when I do get to my “spots”, I am moving around seeking out enemies but at the same time defending my area.
COD and BF3 are fast paced shooters, reflexes play a huge role in putting a bullet into your enemy’s head a split second faster than he can pop you off. Now I know my reflexes are not as fast as a few years ago when I could spend hours playing and speeding up my reflexes so I like to play smart and let these people run around while I wait for them to show up in my crosshair.
