According to this Xbox Japan blog, Microsoft is still trying to make inroads into the Japanese market for some reason.
In a country where only Xbox 500 units are sold each week, where mobile and handheld gaming is king, and where local companies have preferential treatment and backing from gamers and the gaming industry alike, I question the wisdom behind this… but whatever.
The final nail in the coffin is the bundle itself. Just take a look:
Priced at 498,980 Yen (over $420 USD/$600 CAD), they’re bundling three old XBox One games: Zoo Tycoon, Dance Central Spotlight and Kinect Rivals.
First off, isn’t living space in Japan already at a premium? Why bundle the Kinect, when many gamers probably don’t even have a room large enough to play Dance Central?
Secondly, have they all but ignored the more important Xbox exclusives? Forza 6 and Halo 5 are two of the most important releases in its entire lifespan to date, and they decide to bundle in what amounts to launch games instead?!
